Sailors and merchants

This exhibition forms part of a series of six exhibitions organised by the Maritime Museum, whose aim was to provide a historical view and also a future perspective of where the future of the Mediterranean is heading and should be heading, highlighting cultural, historical, ethnic and other features in order to improve mutual understanding.

This exhibition also follows the line of design initiated in the previous displays, with fabric panels evoking the different shapes of sails. The exhibition reviews developments in the trade of goods and the battles for commercial and economic dominance in the Mediterranean. The evolution of sailing acts as a leitmotif for the exhibition, although its analysis focuses on economics as the driving force and support for various civilisations.
