In the old stables of the Castelldefels Castle, Grup Transversal has designed a project for a first-hand interactive experience based on the period of pirate attacks along the Eramprunyà coast. This project consists of two distinct spaces: an immersive and experience-based space with an audiovisual show and a guided step-by-step visit using projections, stage design and lighting to set the scene; and also another interactive space for unguided visits with different units providing information and experiences.
In order to ensure ease of movement between these two spaces, Transversal has created a route with a separate entrance and exit, ensuring better circulation, avoiding build-ups and distributing visitors in a more orderly fashion. Grup Transversal’s challenge has been to present Castelldefels’ ties to piracy and plunder, explaining the social and political context in which this practice took place and how the Eramprunyà coast and the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula represented one of its focal points.
This immersive space therefore generates four scenes in a thematic tour that explains to visitors the context in which piracy emerged and developed and allows them to experience being part of a pirate crew through the use of lighting, staging and projections. By using such innovations, Grup Transversal has made Castelldefels Castle a space that’s open to the public and a stage for cultural and historical dissemination, with the added challenge of turning it into a tourist attraction that will contribute to local development.
